A messenger compatible with Windows XP

Windows xp

It's good when the company always has a fresh set of computers and laptops, and the latest OS, which is regularly updated. Administrators regularly study current technologies, visit IT conferences and keep the whole infrastructure in tune. But usually, everything is not like that in the "bloody enterprise".

As a rule, corporate systems "freeze" at some point, there are clearly defined rules such as: "main OS should be this and this, with such a service", " a browser — this and this", "New employee receives a laptop with ready system image and software, updates disabled ". You can install software only from the allowed list. Repositories or distributions are on corporate servers. Updates are made only via critical security updates, and not everywhere. Often important systems are simply isolated from the environment.

This is not because administrators are lazy dusty retrogrades, but because there is a lot of software. You often have to pay for updates, and the benefits of these updates are questionable if compatibility is not supported. For example, there is software for a factory that was developed for Windows XP. There are no updates anymore. The software is configured and works well. Of course, we can install Windows 11. But the internal software does not work on it, you need a virtual machine to replicate the original environment.

Old software

Will the company invest in the development of the same software, but on a new OS? Will he look for a replacement? Just to install Windows 11 on an employee's workplace, which will have to be upgraded? The answer is obvious.

There are hundreds of such programs that are well-established and work well. Look at retail. Ordinary shops with cash registers. Especially in Europe. You can even find DOS there :) Or ATM operating systems. And it's not because Windows 11 is bad. It's just that people know how to count their money, and if the system works well, they will change it only if it is impossible to operate in the current conditions. Or if switching to a new system will be more profitable when the cost of an outdated system is overpriced.

A corporate messenger for a company

Not a lot of options. First of all, all modern Internet messengers require three things: the Internet, a modern OS like Windows 7, at least, or newer. And memory. Lots of memory:

Messengers memory consumption

A native application of MyChat Client is 16 megabytes, Viber is 50, then it increases up to 100, 200, almost 300 megabytes. And it's only one program for connection.

When we look at self-hosted variants that can work without the internet (Openfire, Matrix, etc.), the situation will be the same. Only a fresh OS, and again, a lot of memory and a good processor. Otherwise, everything will be slowed down. Or another story — the ancient interface, lack of "features", and the absence of applications for smartphones.

And here is MyChat. It has everything people got used to when using modern IM systems.

MyChat on XP

Messages, statuses, file and picture sharing, voice and video calls (which, by the way, do not work in XP, but the program honestly warns about it).

There are applications for Android and iPhone, also native and fast.

But most importantly, MyChat works on all Windows, from Windows XP to Windows 11. And on all Windows Servers, including terminal sessions.

It runs very fast and consumes a little of memory. And it is updated automatically from its server. MyChat can work without the Internet.

There is a free version for 20 connections, "to try". There are no time limits.
