All articles

In this article we will try to describe all the important points of the MyChat installation in a local, municipal or corporate network.

If you've heard before, that the installation of client-server chat in a network - is complicated, try to show you the way to dissuade. MyChat  – a product that works immediately after installation, and virtually requires no initial setup.

How it works - MyChat?

To begin to understand that MyChat - is a client-server program. This means that in MyChat have one server that serves any number of clients.

Looks something like this:

Server - means any computer in the network, which is set MyChat Server. And clients - computers, which will be working people who want to connect to a general chat for communication, file transfer, and other things. These computers are installed MyChat Client.

MyChat working on the protocol TCP / IP. This is a standard protocol for exchanging data over the network and the Internet. Yes, MyChat can work well not only in your local network, but also through the Internet!

The chat server or client, you can download here

Установка сервера

To begin, you need to install the server. Extract from the zip-archive file mcservXX.exe, where XX - number of the current version of the server and run it. Administrator rights are required!

Run this setup file and install the software.

All questions Configuration Wizard, which will start as soon as the server starts, you can answer arbitrary - these settings can be configured later.

IP adress

For starters, let's define our network. Because IM works on the protocol TCP / IP, each computer in our network must have its address. This is usually something like 192.168.0.1, 192.168.0.2 and so on. Let IP address assigned to your computer. For operating systems Windows XP, 2000, 2003, you can via the menu: "Start" - "Settings" - "Network Connections" - "Local Area Connection, click Properties. For operating systems Windows Vista, Seven, 2008 must go to "Start" - "Control Panel" - "Network and Internet" - "Network and Sharing Center" - "Change Adapter Settings" - select the network adapter that is connected to the network and go to its properties:

Press the button "Properties" in the window and look at our IP address.

This is the address you specify in the settings MyChat clients to connect to the server.

Client install

Now, when the chat server is installed, and you know its IP address, install the IM client on the computers in your network.

After the first start of the chat client, as a rule, he is looking for the chat server on the LAN. If he could not find, then in the list of servers will only mychat-server.org.ua. This address is a public server MyChat, which is supported by developers MyChat. It is available on the Internet.

So, if the server on your local network failed to find - need to add it manually.

Window - "Server List" appears immediately after the first run MyChat Client:

Click on the button with a plus and add the IP address of our server, which we already know:

Enter an arbitrary name for our server in the field "Server Name" and click "OK". Now the list of available servers appeared necessary entry.

Select it and click "OK", then a connection to the server.

If you need to change or add the server to the list, then go to "Settings":

Now open the "Servers List", press the button "Edit":

Then do everything as described above.

READY!

If done correctly, you can not read further. If you have something did not work - continue to educate.

I did everything as written, but the client does not connect! An error.

Yes, sometimes there are setbacks. But all fixable :-)

The first reason - inattention.

Of course, you did everything carefully. But, please check again whether you specify the server address to connect. Believe me, all sometimes miss and look for a mistake half an hour where it was not. Just check yourself.

All right? And not working. Then

The second reason - incorrect IP address.

Real story (a quotation from the letter):
"I installed the server on a computer with IP 127.0.0.4. When a other users connecting get an error - "connect error 10061". What is wrong? Ports (client - server) coincide. IP server to client prescribed 127.0.0.4. All in vain. What is the problem? "

The problem is this: "You are incorrect addresses assigned to computers on your LAN.

All addresses of the form 127.x.x.x - the so-called loopback - to verify that operates the local network interface or not.

Assign the computer address, for example, 192.168.0.1, 192.168.0.2 and so on".

Also not the case?

Reason third - firewall.

Firewall can block outgoing packets from your server or client. This can be either built into Windows, and third-party software, such as Outpost Firewall, Comodo Firewall, Kaspersky etc. Some specific recommendations is difficult to provide, it all depends on the specific program.

But the essence is the same: you need to allow outgoing and incoming traffic for MyChat Server and MyChat Client.

We hope our recommendations will help you establish MyChat, even if you do not particularly advanced understanding of various technical intricacies of the networks.

MyChat - a program available to everyone!
